Dr Richard Yeend​

Dr Richard Yeend studied medicine at Sydney University graduating in 1987.

Richard trained in cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney where he also did an interventional fellowship.

He was appointed as staff specialist in cardiology at Royal Adelaide Hospital in 1994 and has maintained a commitment to public medicine in particular teaching.

Currently Richard works at the Royal Adelaide and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals and performs inpatient cardiac procedural work at Calvary Adelaide Hospital. He also does inpatient consulting at Calvary North Adelaide and St Andrews Hospitals. He has been a visiting specialist at Alice Spring Hospital since 1995 and has been consulting in Port Lincoln for over 20 years.

Although Richard has been an interventional cardiologist he has focused on preventative medicine and in particular risk factor modification as well as heart failure management and imaging.

Richard is married to Juliet who is a radiologist at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and they have two boys. Outside of cardiology he enjoys cycling, bush walking and all sports.

Dr Dale Ashby

Dr Dale Ashby MBBS, PhD, FRACP is a Cardiologist with a special interest in lipid lowering, cardiovascular risk assessment and interventional cardiology.  He obtained his MBBS at Adelaide University and spent his Resident and Cardiology Registrar years at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.  He undertook a PhD in HDL cholesterol research and an interventional cardiology fellowship in New York City at Lennox Hill Hospital. 

He returned to Adelaide in 2003 and works at the Royal Adelaide and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals.   He operates and consults at Calvary Adelaide Hospital and St Andrew’s Hospital, and consults at Calvary North Adelaide and Memorial Hospital.       Dr Ashby consults once a month at Balaklava and Crystal Brook.  He is married with two daughters and enjoys Classic Cars and Motor Racing.

Dr Ivan Straznicky

Dr Ivan Straznicky studied medicine at the University of Adelaide, graduating in 1990.

Ivan trained in Cardiology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Green Lane Hospital in New Zealand before commencing Consultant Cardiology Practice in 1999.

Ivan works at the Royal Adelaide and the Queen Elizabeth Hospitals.   He performs cardiac procedural work at Calvary Adelaide Hospital and inpatient consulting at Calvary North Adelaide and St Andrew’s Hospitals.   Ivan also consults in Bordertown, Keith and Whyalla.   

Ivan has a wide range of interests within Cardiology including hypertension management, heart failure, arrhythmia, coronary stenting and cardiac pacing.

lnterventional and General Cardiology, Cardiac Transplantation Dr Enzo De Angelis graduated in Medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1988 before completing Physician and Advanced Cardiology training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Enzo subsequently moved to Sydney in 1994 to work as the Advanced lnterventional and EP Registrar at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and returned there in 2003 to gain further expertise and experience in coronary intervention.

In 1995 he became the inaugural Heart Transplant Fellow at St Vincent’s Hospital acquiring specialised skills in Cardiac Transplantation & Heart Failure before returning to Adelaide in 1996 to accept a Consultant position at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Enzo works as an lnterventional and General Cardiologist in addition to managing Cardiac Transplant patients.

Outside of Cardiology practice his interests include his Family, music and fitness as well as supporting his Italian cultural heritage. Enzo speaks fluent Italian.

Enzo consults from the Adelaide Heart Clinic rooms in kent Town and Calvary Adelaide Hospital and performs inpatient and cardiac procedural work at Calvary Adelaide, Royal Adelaide and St Andrew’s hospitals.

Professor Peter Psaltis​

Professor Peter Psaltis is an academic Interventional and Preventative Cardiologist who holds a Level 3 National Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellowship and Faculty positions at the Central Adelaide Local Health Network, University of Adelaide and South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). He is the Deputy Director of SAHMRI, co-leads its largest research department (Lifelong Health Theme) and leads its Heart and Vascular Health Program. Concurrently, he is Head of Interventional Cardiology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Peter graduated with MBBS (Hons) from the University of Adelaide (1999), ranking outright first in each year of medicine (25 awards, including University and University Alumni Medals). After completing Basic Physician and Advanced Cardiology training, he undertook his PhD in Adelaide (degree admitted 2010), before post-doctoral research and clinical fellowships at the Mayo Clinic, MN, USA (2009-12) and Monash Hospital, Melbourne (2013-14). He returned to Adelaide in 2015. In addition to his above appointments, Peter consults at Adelaide Heart Clinic across all areas of Cardiology and has admitting rights to Calvary Adelaide Hospital. He is bilingual, also speaking Greek.

Among other national and state leadership positions, Peter is a Board Director of the Australian Cardiovascular Alliance and co-Chair of its Coronary Artery Disease Clinical Theme, past-president of the Australian Atherosclerosis Society, co-Chair of the South Australian Aboriginal Heart and Stroke Leadership Group, and co-Chair of the Heart Foundation’s South Australian Cardiovascular Research Network. He also recently served on the Scientific Committee of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. Peter was/is the national lead of the CLEAR Outcomes (Esperion) and SURMOUNT-MMO (Eli Lilly) clinical trials, principal investigator of the COCOMO-ACS trial (NHMRC), and Imaging Core Laboratory Head for the multinational HUYGENS study (AMGEN).

As of 2025, Peter has published >230 manuscripts and book chapters, mostly in the fields of coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis. His research has global impact and reach, and he ranks in the top 0.05% of researchers worldwide in his field over the last 5 years, also receiving numerous national and international awards for his scientific discoveries.

Dr. Joshua Lushington

Dr. Joshua Lushington is a general and diagnostic cardiologist. He completed his medical training at the University of Adelaide, where he was dux of his year and further awarded the University Medal for outstanding academic achievement. He completed his physician and cardiology training at the Queen Elizabeth and Royal Adelaide Hospitals. He has subsequently undertaken further overseas fellowships at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and the University College Hospital London. His fellowship training focussed on multi-modality cardiac imaging, stress testing and the management of cardiac disease in cancer patients or survivors (cardio-oncology). Dr. Lushington will also manage all general cardiology referrals, and can facilitate urgent assessments for chest pain or other concerning symptoms as required. Dr. Lushington will provide comprehensive cardiovascular assessment and care, delivered in an approachable and patient-centred manner.
